When Potomac College was founded in 1991, the school’s goal was to provide students of all backgrounds and situations an opportunity to pursue Associate of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in a variety of fields. We assist students throughout the academic process in order to help them shape their own career goals and eventually achieve their dreams of higher education.

Prospective and Returning Students

Potomac offers education opportunities for students who are returning to school after some time, or new students without previous college transfer credits. Potomac provides each student, regardless of where they may be in their college career, a chance to receive the higher education they desire.

  • Accuplacer Placement Examinations

    Accuplacer is a series of tests which will assess new students, with no prior college credits, in order to better determine their course selection. Students with an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree or who are able to provide an official college transcript will not have to take the examination.

  • Transitional Courses

    These courses were designed to help students who have been out of school for some time and need prep courses before continuing their higher education. Students will improve their math and english skills and gain gain the ability to move on to the degree program of their choice.

We pride our selves on the sophistication of our online learning opportunities, giving each student a complete education, same as they would receive in a traditional classroom. Our virtual classroom allows students to view grades, download up to date lessons and lectures, submit assignments, receive feedback from instructors and even interact with fellow students via online discussion boards.
Students share regular interaction with their instructors and classmates, providing them with an education that fits into their unique schedule. Each online class is taught by one of our accredited professors and instructors, giving you a superb education on your terms.

TapPrograms

Students within the tap program are offered a unique educational experience, in which they are given the tools necessary to set themselves apart in the job market. With the Theoretical Applications Program(TAP) honors students are selected by faculty members and departmental chairs based on their performances in the classroom.

In order to qualify for the TAP program a student must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 by end of associate degree program.
  • Workplace visit approval by a TAP chairperson.
  • Complete ENGL295 Research and Report Writing with a minimum grad of C.
  • Employment with college approved mentor
  • Complete a minimum of 60 semester credit hours.

Potomac College offers a variety of degree programs each designed and taught by one of our accredited faculty members. Combined, Potomac offers ten Bachelor of Science and Associate of science degree programs, covering a wide range of study and allowing students the options to choose the program that best suits them. We also offer 14 general and advanced professional certificates. Each program listed can be completed through our online degree program. The working adults who turn to Potomac College have a unique need in the world of higher education. They wish to receive the career perks and benefits of a college, but simply do not have time for the typical university life. Potomac’s main goal is to create a curriculum which can provide everyone with that opportunity.Potomac will assist students in their academic journey from the very beginning. Each student is assigned a personal admissions adviser, who understands the process of higher education and who can best guide students in their college careers, and beyond.

All new students of Potomac College must complete the following:

  • Submit a completed application.
  • Complete an interview with an admissions representative.
  • Submit transcripts from all previous colleges/universities attended. Transcripts must be receive within eight weeks of the student’s start date.
  • Submit grade reports or scores from college equivalency examination.
  • If applicable, students must submit any completion certification from corporate education training programs or professional development.
  • Submit military training documents.
  • Submit transcript request forms
  • Submit transcript request forms for all colleges attended.

Transfer Credits

The following credits are recognized by Potomac College:

  • Credits from universities which are nationally accredited by the US Department of Education.
  • Non-scholastic courses which are evaluated by the American Council on Education.
  • Credits awarded for experiential learning, documented and evaluated for college credit by an accredited institution.
  • Military training evaluated by ACE/PONSI.
